From our location in the heart of the north Cumbrian countryside you can enjoy a wealth of low-level walks through pretty woods and open pasture. We even have our own 'Country File', painstakingly prepared by our good friend Mark Richards, author of numerous walking guides and friend of the late Alfred Wainwright. The 'Country File' has detailed maps and descriptions of the walking trails which are within easy reach of Crosby Lodge.
Why not tour the abbeys, castles and historic sites of the Scottish borders, a beautiful area rich in culture and traditional charm. A region famed for its textiles and knitwear, there are plenty of mills and shops in which to browse and buy the beautiful tweeds, tartans and cashmere.
Hadrian's Wall
Almost on the doorstep you will find the spectacular World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall: stretching from Tyneside in the East to the Solway on the West Coast, Hadrian's Wall is a must for anyone visiting our region. Built to repel the marauding Pictish tribes of Scotland , the wall was the most northern border of the Roman Empire and still remains an imposing and dominant feature of the landscape.

For any keen walker, Crosby Lodge's location must surely seem like paradise. Travel a short journey south and you're soon in the Lakeland fells, to the north is Hadrian's Wall and an abundance of walks in the Border region and, with the Pennines to the east, there really is an abundance of walking and rambling to suit everyone.

Shooting
Shooting parties are welcome at Crosby Lodge and we can help to arrange your activities. We can
also provide picnics and provisions for your party, as well as helping with contacts in the area. Please contact us on 01228 573618 and we'll be more than happy to help plan your visit.
Fishing
Crosby Lodge is situated close to the River Eden, well renowned as a superb fly fishing river with a good run of salmon and sea trout, as well as a good head of native wild brown trout. The average weight of salmon caught is a respectable 8 or 9 lbs, although there are many 20lb plus fish caught every year, with the average annual run being around 12,000 fish.
Our friends at Cumbria Fly Fishing are able to provide tuition and guiding services for groups or individuals, or to give demonstrations on techniques most suited to the local rivers.

Carlisle Races
Horse racing in Carlisle dates back to around the 16th century and each year the racecourse holds the Cumberland Plate and Carlisle Bell races, carrying on a tradition which dates back to that era. It is also a little known fact that Red Rum won at the Carlisle September meeting prior to each of his Grand National wins.
We'd be happy to provide you with a picnic or light lunch for your day at the races, as well as transport to and from the racecourse.
